Set immediately post-Katrina, the drama intends to tell the city’s recovery story through fictional characters drawn from some of the real characters who were here then — men and women who live and work in and around the peculiar vernacular culture known mostly to locals: second-line musicians, Mardi Gras Indians, cooks and chefs, music fiends, Kermit Ruffins.

Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder) stars as teenager Leon Bronstein and he truly believes that he is the reincarnation of Bolshevik and Marxist theorist Leon Trotsky. Why do you ask? Well, for one Leon Bronstein was the given name to Leon Trotsky and this kid has a big thing for workers rights and unions. He thinks his life should parallel Trotsky’s life so much that he plans on being exiled, at least twice, and ultimately assassinated. At the moment though, he’s quite focused on finding his Lenin and an older woman to marry, preferably named Alexandra.
We get a good glimpse of what this kid is all about when, as a 17 year old, he tries to unionize the workers at his father’s plant within the first 24 hours of his employment there. His punishment? Having his funds cut off from his fancy private school and being forced to slum it in a public high school for his final year. Here, he has his revolution ideas fully put to the test as he meets the evil and controlling Principal Berkhoff (Colm Feore in an excellent performance) and his brutally strict second in command, Mrs. Davis (Domini Blythe)

Ein Trailer für den experimentellen Animations-Kurzfilm vom Matthew Talbot-Kelly:
Inside a darkened studio, peopled by the sound of ticking gears and cogs, sits a solitary clockmaker. Grown peculiar and strange, ‘Bones’ parcels out time in teaspoons and shadow, until the arrival of a mysterious package propels him from his refuge and sets the agents of fate into motion. Director Matthew Talbot-Kelly’s animated short film The Trembling Veil of Bones employs a combination of live action and computer-generated imagery to fashion a densely layered, richly allusive world of intrigue and revelation.

Take New York City, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction freak, and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly, and you’ve got “Ugly Americans.”
This animated horror-comedy series follows one Mark Lilly, social worker at the Department of Integration, as he helps new citizens both human and “other” adapt to hectic life in the Big Apple. There are easier tasks than weaning vampires off of blood, socializing land-whales, and housebreaking werewolves, but Mark is up to the challenge. Between his stressful job, a zombie roommate, and a demon ex-girlfriend, Mark’s lucky if he can sneak in a few minutes of sleep. But who can sleep when there’s a drop-dead gorgeous Mermaid sitting at the bar?
Ugly Americans was created by Devin Clark and developed by David Stern. Executive Producers are David Stern and Daniel Powell, with animation by Augenblick Studios and Cuppa Coffee. Premieres March 17th at 10:30pm (9:30 Central) on Comedy Central.
