Ein interessantes Zeitdokument:
WELTRAUMSCHIFF 1 STARTET (1940) ist ein 23-minütiger Zusammenschnitt aus dem Rest-Material wegen des Ausbruchs des 2. Weltkrieges leider abgebrochenen Dreharbeiten zu den SF-Filmen ZWISCHENFALL IM WELTRAUM (D 1939, Regie: R A Stemmle) und WELTRAUMSCHIFF 18 (D 1939, Regie: Eduard von Borsody)
Summary: A German film depicting, through the use of special effects and animation, the launch of a space ship and its trip around the moon and return. Brief scenes are included of early German rocket power experiments.
Diese Experimente führten ja dann bekanntermaßen in den folgenden Jahren der V1 und V2 Raketen, die anstatt auf dem Mond, wie in diesem Film so schön technoromantisch geschwärmt wird, in den Innenstädten von Antwerpen und London gelandet sind.

Filmjunk Review:
Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder) stars as teenager Leon Bronstein and he truly believes that he is the reincarnation of Bolshevik and Marxist theorist Leon Trotsky. Why do you ask? Well, for one Leon Bronstein was the given name to Leon Trotsky and this kid has a big thing for workers rights and unions. He thinks his life should parallel Trotsky’s life so much that he plans on being exiled, at least twice, and ultimately assassinated. At the moment though, he’s quite focused on finding his Lenin and an older woman to marry, preferably named Alexandra.
We get a good glimpse of what this kid is all about when, as a 17 year old, he tries to unionize the workers at his father’s plant within the first 24 hours of his employment there. His punishment? Having his funds cut off from his fancy private school and being forced to slum it in a public high school for his final year. Here, he has his revolution ideas fully put to the test as he meets the evil and controlling Principal Berkhoff (Colm Feore in an excellent performance) and his brutally strict second in command, Mrs. Davis (Domini Blythe)

William Shatner & friend in “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”, The Twilight Zone (1963)
Anlässlich des Screenigs auf der diesjährigen Berlinale wurde heute ein englisch untertitelter Trailer zu Koji Masunaris Welcome to the Space Show veröffentlicht:

Wie man im Trailer unschwer erkennen kann, handelt der Film handelt von fünf Kindern, die auf einem Klettergerüst eine Reise ins Weltall unternehmen um dort mit abgedrehten Aliens (inklusive einem lila Totoro Klon) einige Abenteuer zu bestehen und bestimmt auch wieder die Welt (also Japan) retten.
Eine kurze Liebesgeschichte aus Korea. (Mit Musical-Einlage!)
The film is about Min-Soo (played by Kim Hye Seong) who gets his camera stolen from Suk-Yee (played by Hyun-Jin), they later accidentally meet again on a bus, which then sparks their love.

Zonad (Simon Delaney) is from space..probably. Or so the Cassidy family assume when they discover an apparent alien in a shiny red space suit and helmet passed out on the living room floor beside the drinks cabinet.

Ja, sieht gut aus.
Ich frage mich was aus der seinerzeit recht hitzig geführten “Whitewashing”-Kontroverse geworden ist. Der Film geriet damals in die Kritik nachdem ausschließlich weiße Schauspieler für die Verfilmung eines Comics gecastet wurden, der eher in einem asiatischen Setting angesiedelt war und viele Anleihen aus der chinesischen Mythologie und Inuit-Kultur entnommen hatte. Erst hinterher wurde die Rolle von Zuko mit Dev Patel (aus Slumdog Millionaire) besetzt, was anscheinend die Gemüter etwas beruhigen konnte.
Eine eher lustige casting-Entscheidung finde ich dagegen Aasif Mandvi als Admiral Zhao:
Ich weiß nicht ob ich den Film ansehen werden kann ohne ständig an den “Senior Asian Correspondent” aus der Daily Show denken zu müssen.
